Aquatic Weed & Algae Management

Aquatic Weed & Algae Management Services

An overgrowth of aquatic vegetation and algae not only detracts from the aesthetic appeal of a pond or lake, but can also produce foul odors. Hammond Agronomy is a fully certified and insured lake and management company that utilizes industry standard products and practices to manage aquatic ecosystems. Our certified technicians will identify the target algae and weeds that should be removed, and then apply the proper treatments to bring back long lasting results to your body of water.

Algaecide treatments

Hammond Agronomy uses only EPA registered algaecides. Owner and operator Brian Hammond is a licensed and certified applicator of algaecide treatments ensuring that algaecides are safely and effectively applied to ponds and lakes.

Golden algae control

Golden algae was first discovered in Arizona in 2005 and since has been found in public and private waters in the greater Phoenix area. Golden algae releases chemical compounds that combine with minerals in the water to produce toxins that can kill animals with gills such as fish and some amphibans. The blooms are not a direct threat to humans or other mammals. Golden algae blooms are usually treated with an algaecide such as copper sulfate.

mechanical removal

Mechanical removal of excess aquatic weeds and algae is an environmentally friendly and often times an effective way to manage aquatic plants. Mechanical removal is an advantageous technique when herbicides are not desired and when the biomass forms a dense surface canopy. Many times, we combine mechanical removal with nutrient reduction management in order keep ponds and lakes free of plant overgrowth.

Lake Dyes and colorants

Lake dyes and colorants  are another tools that we use to control algae.  The dyes, usually blue or black, reduces sunlight penetration and as a result reduces the algae growth. Dyes are most effective in water more than 2 feet deep and are recommended for ponds without considerable water exchange.
